An Algorithm for Color Image Enhancement Based on Human Visual Property

摘要: 为了增强图像暗区域部分,基于人类视觉系统的全局和局部自适应调节原理,提出一种彩色图像增强方法。该方法主要包括全局自适应亮度调节、局部对比度增强和颜色恢复3个部分。全局亮度调节采用直方图非线性自适应拉伸来增强暗区域的亮度;局部对比度增强利用当前点与区域像素之间的关系,调节当前点的亮度,以增强图像局部对比度;通过一种自适应的非线性颜色恢复算法恢复图像色彩。通过大量图像对比实验分析表明,本文方法可以自适应有效快速地实现图像增强。

Abstract: To enhance the dark areas of an image, a novel algorithm to enhance the color image based on global and local adaptation of the human visual regulation principles is proposed.The algorithm mainly consists of three parts: a preliminary global luminance adjustment followed by local contrast enhancement and color restoration. The global luminance adjustment increases the luminance of darker pixels based on nonlinear adaptive histogram stretching. The local contrast enhancement adjusts the intensity of each pixel based on its relative magnitude, which is based on its correlation between relative magnitude and the output of its neighboring pixels. Then an adaptive nonlinear color restoration process is applied to convert the enhanced intensity image back to a color image. The contrast experimental results based on a large set of images indicate that, the proposed image enhancement algorithm is adaptive, effective and rapid.
