Application of Delay Jitter in TFRC Congestion Control Strategy

Abstract: The paper studies a rate-based TCP-friendly congestion control mechanism named TFRC, which is widely used in real-time multimedia application, and discusses its basic working process, throughput model and calculation for the key parameters. In order to meet the requirement of real-time application for network transport, a proposal is made that delay jitter could be used in the congestion control as a warning signal of network congestion. Meanwhile, a dynamic adaptive jitter threshold and an adjusting factor are used to improve the rate adjustment mechanism of TFRC. The result of simulation indicates that the improved algorithm can obtain an relative ideal effect in the transport of real-time application.
